The countryside of Flanders has changed thoroughly in the 20th century. The biodiversity has decreased considerably. Recently there is a growing interest in a more sustainable agriculture which also takes into account the biodiversity of the farm land. This project aims at a detailed study of the refuge function and a thorough insight into the factors and processes affecting the biodiversity in small landscape elements. In term of biodiversity both flora and animals and their interaction will be studied.
