Abstract

We resolve the evolutionary dynamics of bony fishes at various scales in space and time by focussing on intraspecific historic (vicariance and dispersal) and recent processes (gene flow, selection and drift). The genetic implications of host - parasite interactions represent a growing focus. We collaborate with other disciplines in an attempt to explain micro- and macro-evolutionary phenomena and use various genomic markers (e.g. allozymes, microsatellites, mitochondrial DNA, ribosomal DNA,Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphisms and Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphisms). Our research has applications for conservation biology, fisheries and aquaculture.
