Abstract

The participants of the RUG will carry out a systematic study of selected taxa of the flora of Papua New Guinea and adjacent archipelagoes.Within the marine algae, the Caulerpales (Chlorophyta) and the genus Dictyota (Phaeophyta) will be studied in detail. Phytoplankton studies will include diatoms, desmids and phytoflagellates belonging to different algal taxa. The mycological study will focus on the Xylariaceae (Ascomycetes) with emphasis on the anamorph-teleomorph connection. Pteridological research will be carried out on the Aspleniaceae and within the phanerogams emphasis will be laid on the study of Cyperaceae and Poaceae.
