Within this project the phylogenetic relationships of and within the large turbellarian taxon Rhabdocoela is investigated. Emphasis is on the question wether the fresh water taxa together for a monophyletic group. Such a monophyletic taxon is suggested by recent molecular analyses, but is in contradiction with traditional hypotheses based on morphology. These relationships will be investigated using a combination of molecular markers. A second objective of the project is to investigate the phylogenetic relationships and diversity within the cosmopolitan species complex "Gyratrix hermaphroditus". It will also be investigated wether DNA-barcoding can be usefull lwithin this species compex.
