Abstract

The emission of visible light by living organisms is called BIOLUMINESCENCE. This phenomenon is rare in term of number of species but widespread among marine animal phyla. Present in 13 different invertebrates groups, marine fishes are the only luminous vertebrates. The diversity of the phenomenon is extreme and our researches are focused on echinoderm and fishes bioluminescence. Multidisciplinary studies combining morphological, physiological, ecological and ethological approaches are developed in our laboratory in collaboration with national and international institutions.
