Abstract
In general I am working on freshwater fisheries and ecology and other related topics. This research started with th einvestigation of the status, ecology and habitatpreference of the endangered species Cobitis taenia, L. and cottus gobio L. in the Flanders, Belgium and the design of a species protection programme based on a literature study. The next step was the investigation of migration barriers in Flanders. A chart for policy support was designed based on a selection of ecological and strategic important rivers in the Flemish. An inventory of migration barriers on these high priority streams, resulted in a cartographic reproduction of all migratory problems for fish, with specifications concerning the type of problem. An other projec founded IBI-methodology, which can be used as a monitoring strategy. At the moment we are also working on the design of some habitat restoration projects across the Flanders. The remeandering of streams is a very important step towards natural habitats and hence for the protection of several lotic freshwater fish species and other animals and in general for the preservation of biodiversity in Flemish streams.
