This project aims at a histroric-demographic and genetic analysis of the resting egg bank of cladocerand in Crescent Island Crater Lake (Lake Naivasha, Kenya). Starting from sediment cores that span more than 1000 years of history, we will reconstruct the dynamics of extinction and recolonization of five Daphnia species. Using microsatellite DNA markers, we will try to find out whether recolonization occurs from the resting egg bank or through dispersal from other habitats.
