Weathering is supposed to be an important source of cations for tree uptake in most forest ecosystems. The processes associated with weathering are studied in a toposequence of soils developped on Famennian shales in a small forested catchment dominated by Oak, using a combination of mineralogical, soil solution, total and exchangeable soil pools, and cation exchange resins data.
