The project aims to investigate (i) if the immediate 'home and garden vicinity' of cystic fibrosis patients can be the source of Burkholderia cepacia complex infection, (ii) if the reports concerning the presence of 'B. cepacia' in drinking water are correct, and (iii) if the rise in B. multivorans infections points to epidemic transmission; in order to improve infection control measures.
