Abstract

Soils under forests subjected to elevated N deposition have a completely different N dynamic than natural forests. The objective of this project is a comparison of natural forest in Chile and more polluted forests in Flanders on three levels: (1) biotic or abiotic immobilisation of NO3- and NH4+, (2) the formation and fate of dissolved organic N, and (3) N species redistribution to and transfer among different soil pools.
