This research project is linked with the forest extension-project of the Flemish government, who intends to afforest 10.000 ha before 2007. This research project develops an integrated model for the planning, implementation and management of forests at the urban fringes. Within this project the technical forestry planning is combined with the social, political and economical dimension. The methodology used is based on the model of a social learning. Within this model, the participation of several actors has a central meaning within a social searching and learning process.
