The first target is to acquire a better aptitude of the factors that determine the ecological value of poplar plantations. An exploratory research is executed on the data from the Flemish forest inventory. A number of parameters and processes will be further studied in detail, like the effect of grazing, isolation, presence of understorey, migration of species,… The ultimate objective is to evaluate measures that can be used in forest management and policy relating to poplar plantations.
