A rapid identification technique will be developed and a population study undertaken of the bacterium Pantoea ananatis, that caused bacterial die-back and wilt of Eucalyptus in South Africa. Pantoea spp. That are associated with Coniothyrium canker of Eucalyptus will be identified and their synergistic relationship with the fungus Coniothyrium zuluense in the disease will be investigated.
