Males of spiders of the genera Diplocephalus, Savignia and Erigonella have complex cepthalic structures (hunches, furrows, glands) which are used in courtship and copulatory behaviour. The aim of this study is to investigate what the exact function of these structures is, and whether they may have (had) a role in the speciation of the clade through sexual selection (female choice).
