A recent trend in nature management of large nature reserves in Western Europe is the introduction of different large herbivores to improve structural and biological diversity. To know their impact on the landscape, habitat use (location selection and vegetation community selection) of pony's, donkeys, horses and cattle is investigated. Attention goes to diurnal, seasonal, and in-between-species differences, always with a link towards the grazing pressure on the vegetation. Also the determinants of habitat use are investigated, starting from two points of view: optimal foraging strategy and interaction between herbivores. Habitat gebruik en foerageerstrategie van grote herbivoren in fijnschalig gestructureerd kustduin landschap: In kustreservaten zijn verschillende grote grazers ingeschakeld in het natuurbeheer. Het habitatgebruik (locatie- en type selectie) van pony's, ezels, paarden en runderen wordt onderzocht; met focus op dag/nacht, seizoenale en interspecifieke verschillen. In een tweede luik worden de oorzaken van dit habitat gebruik opgespoord, vertrekkende vanuit twee invalshoeken: optimale-foerageen-theorie en interactie tussen grote herbivoren.
