Abstract

We aim at developing reliable indicators of biodiversity of Branchiopods in temporary waters in Hungary and Flanders. Temporary waters are common in Hungary, but also in Flanders, and they are threatened by various human activities. Branchiopods (large branchiopods as well as cladocerans) are an important component of the fauna of temporary waters. In this project we will determine both species diversity in branchiopods as well as genetic diversity in key taxa. Attention will be paid to the relationship between diversity and environmental variables. In addition, we will also study diversity in the resting egg bank.
