Abstract

The project aims at developing a methodology to assess and evaluate land degradation at different spacial scales in the Austro Ecuatoriano. Special attention is paid to unraveling soil erosion processes at field, slope and hydrological catchment scale. The parameters of the Revised Universal Soil Loss Ecuation (RUSLE) are assessed at field scale. In order to come to practi- cal soil conservation measures for farmers, an in-depth evalua- tion is implemented of all existing soil conservation practise, including soil rehabilitation technologies, which fit the agro- ecological conditions of the Austro. The project also comprises an important training component of local scientists as well as extension agents, aiming at technology transfer towards the local land users.
