Abstract

The forests in Flanders are highly fragmented, moreover the majority of the forests are relatively young. Typical forest plant species have difficulties to colonize these young forests. An important stage in the establishment of forest plants is seed germination. The germination capacity of some forest plants in natural conditions and the moment of germination will be examined. The effect of several environmental conditions (light, temperature, humidity, etc.) on seed germination is also being examined.
