Abstract

Hypoplasia is a defect visible in tooth enamel that can result from physiological or nutrional stress. The deformation is studied on pig teeth from archaeological sites in Turkey (Sagalassos) and Belgium. Analyses are carried out on a macroscopic and microscopic level and will be used to reconstruct the forest cover through time and to document how pig breeding was organised in the past (single or double farrowing).
