Abstract

So far, farmers have relied on chemical products which has been instrumental in solving nematode problems in intensive crops. Some of these products will be phased out in the year 2005. Aqueous extracts and decomposition products of several indigenous plants (e.g. members of the Allium spp.) are reported to be toxic to plant parasitic nematodes. Products like DMDS, Nemakron, CA1 are evaluated on their nematicidal effect and application methodology is optimised to increase their capacity to control soil borne pathogens (e.g. nematodes).
