In this study, vegetation maps of the stream ‘Bosbeek’ and its valley are made, based on detailed vegetation surveys. On the basis of the present vegetation types, but also on the abiotic conditions and the structural characteristics of the stream bed, suggestions are made for further management. These include the restoration and development of vegetation types, as well as the amelioration of the structural and abiotical quality of the stream, and the removal of bottlenecks for colonization by migratory fish populations. Different scenarios of valley management are discussed, using indicator species for vegetation management, with different degrees of human impact on the valley ecosystem. These scenarios can be used as a basis for development of more detailed management plans.
