Abstract

The Department of Biology of the University of Zimbabwe undertakes research on the biology of smaller and medium-sized lakes and on the biology of the river-fishes in inflowing and andflowing rivers. This is very usefull for the country as it would bring about the basis for biological management of the lakes and should include the training of fisheries-biologists. Limited laboratory- facilities are present and local scientific staff can be trained within very short terms starting from Masters in Zoology who graduated from University. The goals aimed are: - to obtain the biological information necessary for the sane biological management of the lakes; - to build up and to train a team of hydrobiologists and fish- biologists capable of this research and management.
