Abstract

Ericales sensu APG is an order with no or very few morphological characters. Also wood anatomically there is a huge amount of variation within the order. Hence, this diversity in the secundar xylem asks for a detailed study. At first, wood anatomical gaps will be filled up with the aid of LM and SEM observations. Taxa under investigation are paleotropical neotropical Ericaceae, Marcgraviaceae, and Sapotaceae. The second aim of this project is to verify the delimitation and phylogenetic relationships of the order. Herefore, a combined matrix will be set up which will be analysed cladistically.
