Abstract
Quantitative data on "where, when and why" land-cover changes take place globally are still incomplete. We develop new approaches to the monitoring and modelling of deforestation and dryland degradation in tropical regions. Time series analysis techniques are developed d to monitor land-cover changes at regional scales. Modelling strategies to project land-cover changes, spatial patterns of changes and their ecosystems and climatic impacts are also developed.
