The project's main objective is to analyse the dynamics of rural areas in zones under the influence of secondary urban centres in two South-East Asian countries (Cambodia and Vietnam). These countries have recently liberalised their economies, redistributed land and are undergoing strong economic growth. The project will analyse the differential effects of the development of secondary cities on the surrounding rural areas both in terms of the structuring of the area and land dynamics and in terms of the evolution of consumers' demands and the capacity of local agriculture to meet them. Based on these analyses, it will also contribute to the debates on city-country balance in national development strategies and territorial planning policies.
