The goal of this project is to develop a series of possible extinction principles, and to mathematically simulate the changes in vegetation pattern that coincide with them. Three stages are foreseen:
(1) Construction of theoretical 2-D vegetation patterns by computer simulation
(2) Induction of local extinction in the model patterns developed under (1) by eliminating species according to various principles.
(3) Study how the original structure of the vegetation is modified by the induced extinctions with a GIS.
