Abstract

With 120 000 inhabitants and an area of 140 km2 Cubatão qualifies as an urban area. The mangrove of this coastal area occupies 136 538 m2 but only 40% is in good condition. Many anthropogenic activities cause pollution, but despite these environment impacts, the region is an important for its biodiversity. The aim of this research is to study the evolution of the urban mangrove forest in Cubatão between 1962 and 2008.
