Abstract

Local phylogenetic heterogeneity is a property of species assemblages complementary to alpha species diversity. It can give clues about the time scale during which species diversification occurred. Hence, it adds an evolutionary dimension that can help understand the factors responsible for the current organization of the biological diversity.
