Abstract

Based on 25 interviews with predominantly elderly fishermen in Limburg, the fish fauna in rivers and rivulets in Limburg over the period 1925-1965 is described. Information on crayfish and otter has been gathered as well as information on river fisheries and river management. From this study, we conclude that Bullhead was a typical fish species for rivers and rivulets in Haspengouw. Brook lamprey was a typical species for rivulets in the Kempen. Dace was present on al most all rivers and rivulets and can be regarded as a typical species for rivulets in Limburg.
