This study gives an inventory of the angling waters and fishing methods in the Flemish region. Objectives and goals will be formulated for fishery management and angling possibilities in public angling waters. A vision on the ecological integration of fishing activities in public waters will be formulated. In the study a methodology is developed to assess the impact of recreational activities on nature based on a scientific method. Information on the current use of public waters for fishing was gathered for Flanders. Both fishing and angling methods as well as angling intensity were assessed and visualised in a Geographic Information System. The different fishing methods are evaluated on their effects based on the impact and negative effects of in land fisheries and angling, known from literature. Information on nature (ecotopes, species) was gathered from digitally available sources in Flanders. A analysis of the vulnerability of nature towards fishing activities is being made and potential negative effects are shown on maps. The results form a new base for an integration of inland fisheries in the policy for nature and environment in Flanders.
