Abstract

Due to excavation activities for sand in Dessel (Belgium) the river Witte Nete has been repositioned over a distance of 1.5 km. This repositioning was incorporated in the environmental assessment of the project as a mitigation for the negative effects. This project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of this repositioning on a short term and medium term range. Beside the landscape and river morphology also waterquality, waterkwantity, the macro-invertebrates and fishes (species, abundance, habitat use) are monitored. A general advice for repositioning of brooks in Flanders will be formulated based on the results of this study.
