Abstract
More than 300 strains, mainly of lignivorous tropical Basidiomycetes, are screened for abundant xylanase production or its resistance to unusual temperatures and pH. The most interesting strains are preliminary caracterized from the standpoint of optimal culture conditions and the enzyme, before detailed study by the associated laboratories.
