The picophytoplancton is still imperfectly know, especially in the Austral Ocean, where it could present a great ecological importance. The study aims to assess this role through classical techniques (microscopical counts, cultures), but mostly through characterization at the DNA level (PCR amplification of charateristic sequences, sequencing, hybridization).
