Abstract

These systematic revisions are mainly based on morphometrics, sometimes in combination with molecular approaches (collaboration with the Institut Royal d'Histoire Naturelle de Belgique). Data are already available for various groups such as the eretmodini, the genera Chalinochromis, Telmatochromis, Tropheus, Petrochromis, Neolamprologus and the Ectodini. In a study of the Neolamprologus savoryi complex, nine described and two undescribed species were distinguished. Geographical variation has been observed in the two species (N. brichardi and N. savoryi) with a circumlacustrine distribution. The other species have more restricted distributions in which the geological split of the lake in sub-basins is reflected. A multidisciplinary revision of the genera Ophthalmotilapia and Cyatopharynx combines morphological and molecular research. The first data on Ophthalmotilapia have been published and three more full publications are in preparation.
