Abstract

This project is to a large extent a collaboration of two Belgian institutes, the Africa Museum and the KBIN in Brussels. Two multidisciplinary expeditions on the lake were organized (1992, 1995) in collaboration with local research bodies and with the participation of other international scientists and specialists of other components of the fauna. For the fishes, a detailed sampling program was set up to explore the shallow rocky shores of Zambia, Tanzania and Burundi. The Congolese shoreline could not yet be explored in detail. Recently, the collections of the littoral and sublittoral sandy habitats were reviewed as well. Another expedition is planned for October 1991.
