Abstract

Development of a fire risk assessment methodology. The objective is to develop an improved fire risk assessment method, which integrates remotely sensed data from the VEGETATION sensor and AVHRR or AASR (ENVISAT) sensors, and, where needed climate infor- mation. Improvements over AVHRR based predictors will be quanti- fied and MERIS and new high-resolution METEOSAT sensor data will be evaluated in the same context once they become available. Development of a re-greening index for monitoring vegetation regrowth after natural disaster. The objective is to develop one or more indicators describing vegetation regrowth after natural disaster and to produce re-greening maps spatially quantifying inter- and intra-growing season vegetation rehabilitation. Indicators will be linked to productivity so that re-greening data becomes available for carbon dudget modelling.
