The official start of BeBIF, a network project associated to the BEN services was on June 1st 2002. This project is subsidised by the Belgian Science Policy Office (BelSPO). BeBIF is the Belgian part of a world-wide effort named GBIF (for Global Biodiversity Information Facility). It is an endeavour to build the prototype of a Belgian bioinformatics infrastructure to integrate within a unified environment several Belgian Biodiversity resources.
