The assignment of this project is the application of a test project on real scale to test the growth of economical valorizable metal accumulating crops. The aim is to grow these crops on fields that are contaminated with heavy metals. In the Kempen is a large amount of areas contaminated withheavy metals (especially Cd and Zn) due to the high emmissions of the previous non-ferro-industry. Classical techniques for soil sanitizing are not possible. This project will investigate possible solutions for these situations with as a possible tecnique Fyto-extraction. The project will explore the possibilities and will proceed under the conditions as stated in present project proposition.
